The publication of one’s contribution in Open Access in a journal is one of the ways to promote Open Access. It can be cost-free if the journal is diamond, or it may involve the payment of an “Article Processing Charge” (APC) in the case of gold or hybrid journals. Authors affiliated with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) have the opportunity to access discounts and benefits as a result of existing agreements with certain publishers.

If the selected journal follows a Diamond Open Access publishing model, open access is the standard and no fee is required to publish the paper.

If the selected journal follows a Gold Open Access publishing model, open access is the standard, but you have to pay a publishing fee.
please note: The Article Processing Charges (APCs) required by gold open access journals are generally lower than those required by hybrid journals, on average OVER 50% lower (according to an analisys by delta think).
If you are publishing as part of a funded project, please check first whether the APC can be accounted for and reimbursed (usually it can).
please note: some hybrid journals define their open access option as “gold”. IN this case, the apc cost may not be eligible for reimbursement (horizon europe and erc, for example, do not reimburse).

If the selected journal is hybrid, you can choose the open access option, also known as open choice, open online, etc.
please note: THE APC requested by hybrid journals are generally higher THAN THOSE REQUESTED BY GOLD JOURNALS, ON AVERAGE BY OVER 50% (according to a DELTA THINK ANALYSIS).
If you are publishing as part of a funded project, please check before whether the APC cost can be accounted for and reimbursed.

If the selected journal is hybrid, but the publisher has a Read & Publish agreement with Unimore, you can publish open access without paying any APC cost (up to the defined cap with the publisher).
when submitting the article, please indicate your affiliation with Unimore. in comunications with the publisher, always use your institutional e-mail @unimore.it
the use of the institutional E-MAIL is not mandatory, but is highly recommended for greater and immediate recognition. some publishers have already provided the option for affiliation in the forms prepared for article submission.
