The European Commission, through the Horizon Europe program, updates and expands the mandates of open science for eligible research projects. The goal is to encourage best practices for research that is open to collaboration, innovation, and participation from the scientific community, as well as the general public

Section 1
Excellence

In this section, you need to describe the open science practices envisaged in the research project. The ways in which one can adhere to open science may involve different phases of the research activity.

Methodology
Specify HOW and WHICH open science practices you will integrate into the methodology applied to your research project.

They are mandatory practices:
+ Open access publication of research products or deposit of postprints with an open license and embargo 0 on an institutional repository (e.g., iris Unimore)
+ Preparation of a Data Management Plan
+ Data management according to FAIR principles

They are recommended practices:
+Sharing preprints in trusted repositories
+ Adoption and/or participation in open peer review
+ Engagement in citizen science activities

Section 2
Impact

This section is dedicated to the measures taken to maximize the impact of the research project and its dissemination. There are no mandatory open science practices for this part, but some of them can add value to your proposal.

Measures to maximise impact – Dissemination, exploitation and communication
Describe the plan for dissemination and communication activities of the project.
You must plan strategically throughout the project’s duration, outlining objectives, timelines, tools used, and the target audience (academic community, citizens, business society, etc.)

To enhance impact, the following good open science practices can be helpful:
+ Intellectual property management strategy (maintaining copyright on publications, measures to protect patents, trade secrets, etc.)
+Promotion and valorization of project results through conferences, meetings, and events open to the public
+ Use of social media, websites, blogs, creation of online encyclopedia entries

Section 3
Implementation

In this section, you need to specify the tools for designing and monitoring the research work.

Work plan and resources
Compile a list of deliverables that will be updated throughout the various phases of the research activity.
Each work plan must have clear content and distinct activities and must be submitted within 6 months from the start of the project.

the mandatory deliverables are:
+ Data Management Plan
+ Dissemination and communication plan

Capacity of participants and consortium as a whole
For this part, the coherence and solidity of the consortium regarding its participants will also be evaluated. Attention will also be given to the activities previously carried out and supported by the partners in the context of open science. For example:
+Previous projects related to open science practices and objectives
+ Citizen science projects
+ Use and/or production of open-access resources consistent with the presented project
